OpenAI’s latest text-to-video generator, Sora’s announcement on February 15, 2024, created quite a cacophony on social media, beyond the usual techbro euphoria.

AI has been a bane of an artist’s (programmers and many other profession’s) existence, stealing art and jobs, and threatening to shutter many industries. Amid such doom and gloom, memes doth provide a momentary respite. As hyper realistic renders generated by Sora baffle everyone, netizens are taking potshots at the AI with video memes not generated by the model. The avalanche probably started with Jordan B. Peterson sharing an innocuous post that assumed a clip from the Bollywood movie Singham featuring Ajay Devgan was Sora-generated. The community note flagged the post but the trend seems to have caught on.

Here are a few and don’t miss the Mark Zuckerberg (and psst…a certain politician sipping water whilst facing tough questions) one. The prompts in the captions are 🤌

Sora is yet to be released to the aam junta even as OpenAI is doing adversarial testing incorporating a small red team. The outcome will help regulate and integrate checks in place. The threat of malevolent players utilizing Sora or similar tools to generate porn and propaganda is ever present. Was it trained on similar data? The company has yet to reveal the data set.
